WHO I AM: I’m Kelly Foss, a trained classical realism artist based in NYC, who specializes in portraiture. Whether it’s a wedding, inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or in bustling Central Park- I love the energy of painting live on the scene!

WHAT ARE MY MATERIALS/SET UP: I paint with quality oil paint on stretched linen (or linen on panel if you prefer). I bring my own easel and light. All I need is a space of about 5’ x 6’ with either a good view of what I’m going to paint, or a good spot to passively entertain your guests.

WHAT I WILL PAINT: There are many special moments on your wedding day! Discuss with your future partner, and your planner, which moment you’d like as an heirloom. (Some ideas: When you’re both holding hands, looking at each other, with your wedding party at your sides. The first kiss at the altar. Or the first dance at the reception.) THIS choice can help you decide what size canvas is best. After you decide upon your moment, let your photographer(s) know what they need to capture AND share with me as soon as they can. This way, I don’t get in their way trying to get the shot myself.

HOW I PAINT LIVE AT YOUR WEDDING: I like to get to the venue 2 hours before ceremony so can set-up and start painting the background of the pre-decided scene. Whether I will be painting a moment from the ceremony or the reception- it goes by fast! Therefore, it’s helpful to have a head-start! Then with the help of the photo(s) the photographer provides me, I continue painting through the reception, focusing on the figures. My painting will provide unique side-entertainment for your guests.

WILL IT BE FINISHED: About 80% of the painting will be done during the reception. I like to take the painting back to my studio back in NYC to really refine it. Allowing the oil paint to dry enough to be safe for transit in approximately 3-5 weeks, the couple either picks it up or pays for shipping with insurance. IF the couple wants the painting left with them, an extra day of hotel stay to allow for completing the painting. If the location is a considerable distance from NYC, a travel compensation will be an added.

WHY OIL PAINT: Oil paint takes time to dry. Things like skin and fabrics to remain workable for the artist. There’s a richness to the color and texture of oil paint. I create artwork in the tradition of the old masters, making a fine art heirloom for you and your family.
